4 Tips for a Healthy, More Comfortable Pregnancy
Your first resource for pregnancy care should always be your doctor, especially if you are unsure of a product or activity or are struggling with any pain or discomfort. With that said, there are some great ways to help make the most of this journey in comfort and good health! Here are some general tips from our organic baby care team.
Drink lots of water
Staying hydrated, especially in our hot Aussie summers, is always a number one priority – but when you’re pregnant, it’s non-negotiable! Treat yourself to a good-sized stainless-steel water bottle that will insulate your water and keep it cool for hours on end. This is the most hygienic material for water bottles, is fully recyclable, and is free from any toxins and chemicals. It also keeps water tasting fresh and clean! Specialists recommend that you drink about 2.5-3 litres of water each day to help digestion, keep the fluid around your baby at optimal levels, keep your energy levels constant, decrease swelling, and decrease your risk of UTIs.
Mix it up with herbal teas
It can get a little boring just drinking water all the time, so try out some organic herbal teas. Mint teas are good for reducing nausea and soothing digestion after the first trimester, and ginger is great during the early stages of pregnancy. Rooibos and green teas are full of antioxidants, and a cup of chamomile can help you sleep. It can also be helpful to add a little fresh fruit juice to your herbal tea to make a refreshing, cold drink for hot summer days. There are some teas you should avoid, however, including teas high in caffeine, hibiscus tea, dong Quai, liquorice, and yarrow.
Exercise gently and regularly
Exercise is great for all bodies, including during pregnancy! But it does depend on how fit and active you were in your pre-pregnancy days, how far along you are, and the kind of exercise you want to do. A good rule of thumb is to stick to low impact exercises like swimming, walking, and yoga. It’s best to exercise in the early morning or evening when it is cool (unless you are in an air-conditioned gym), and not to push yourself too hard. Listening to your body and how you feel will help guide a healthy exercise routine!
Treat yourself to organic skincare
Your skin is the largest and most absorptive organ in your body, which means anything that goes onto your skin can get into your bloodstream and go straight to your baby. So, there’s no better time to make the switch to organic self-care! Look for products that are natural and organic, that use pure essential oils and plant extracts, and that contain no toxins, chemicals, or preservatives. If you’re struggling to find an organic range you like, look for a baby care range like KidsBliss. These products are suitable for adults as well as babies, and we even have ACO and fragrance-free products for extra sensitive skincare.
